Goodbye, Suga!

Monday, June 27, 2011

I have a problem. I am seriously addicted to sugar. With a little more time on my hands lately, I realize that my days have begun to look like this: breakfast, cookie, lunch, ice cream, dinner, piece of chocolate/cupcake/donut hole. So, I'm giving it up. For one week. I know I know, only one week? But baby steps. So from today till next Monday I'm putting myself on sugar probation. Fruit only! See ya later, cupcakes, ice cream and cookies .... till we meet again.

* If you have any suggestions on how to deal with a sweet tooth, I'd love to hear them. If not, wish me luck! (I'll need it!)

  1. Ricotta cheese with cinnamon and sugar-free vanilla extract. Stir it up and enjoy!

  3. Ive done this before. It might be good to give yourself one cheat snack. Only because stopping cold turkey usually results in failure. Trust me this I know! he-he. But one week shouldn't be too hard, in fact, I think I might do this along with you. I need it :)Remember Sugar is addicting so if you can get past one week the cravings should start to go away.

  4. from a fellow sugar addict, the best advice i've been given is this:
only eat desserts that are homemade. if you want it bad enough, you have to make it YOURSELF.

do i follow this advice? no. but i should. good luck!

  5. omg, I recently stopped eating sugar/sweets for a week and a half for this cleanse and it was semi-hellish. But the trick was LOTS of fruit. Like, fruit by the buckets. By the end it wasn't that hard anymore! ps. so pumped about bike rides to hang out!

  8. I need to join you on this venture. Yesterday I discovered the most delicious/dangerous treat I've ever encountered. It involved combining 1-2 peanut butter m&m's (the big ones not the reese's pieces) with 1 animal cracker. I considered writing a letter to both companies requesting that they make this a legit treat. It's all I've eaten in the last day and a half.

Lets see if I can last the week with you! Good luck!!!

  9. Ya.. good luck with that.
The only way to stop doing something, is to not think about it. Pay it no mind, and find a few good replacements to be your new obsessions.

    Cheers!

  11. I gave up sugar for 6 weeks recently. I tried to go for 2 months but I just love it to much! I'm still watching it in moderation and only allowing myself 1 cheat per week. It was really hard at first but after a while your body adapts. It's weird - suddenly everything starts to taste sweeter than it did before. I still allow chocolate milk (I love it! - 2 teaspoons NestleQuick in a glass of non-fat milk). I've also found that greek yogurt with a little honey and some berries is seriously sweet enough for me!

  12. The other thing that helps is a little mental trick. When I see something sweet I really want I think "No, I don't need it. If I want it tomorrow, I'll have it tomorrow." Usually I forget about it by the next day!
