I'm really excited about today's giveaway! Amy Thomas is a writer and francophile from New York City with a highly refined palate for sweets. She recently worked in Paris writing ad copy for a little company called Louis Vuitton. Amy and I have been communicating over the interweb for a while now, and I was thrilled when she asked me to giveaway a new copy of her book, Paris, My Sweet: A Year in the City of Light (and Dark Chocolate). Amy's book chronicles a sweet freak's journey working in Paris on the Champs-Élysées, exploring patisseries and boulangeries and marveling at the City of Lights. Feeling like .....

Curling up with a good book this weekend. I'm currently reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. It's incredible and if you haven't read it, I highly suggest picking it up. Next up: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers (i've never read it, shame on me!) but plan to amend that soon! What are you reading currently?

Summer Reading

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland is one of my all time favorite children's stories. I am getting extremely excited to see Tim Burton's new movie rendition coming out in the spring of 2010! Anne Hathaway will play the White Queen, Johnny Depp will play the Mad Hatter, and Alan Rickman will play the caterpillar!

Children's Books

My very first friend is having a baby this summer and I am so excited! I have been trying to find the perfect gift to celebrate her new baby boy, when some friends gave me the best idea! A stack of my favorite children's book's from growing up. How sweet, right? Here are some of my favorite classic children's stories. What are some of yours?

The Red Balloon

The Red Balloon was one of my all time favorite books as a child. The story is of a young boy who discovers a stray red balloon which seems to have a mind of its own on the streets of Paris. The two become inseparable, yet the worlds harsh realities finally interfere. After the book became a huge success world-wide, the French author, Albert Lamorisse, wrote and directed the movie, Le Ballon Rouge, which came out in 1956.


It's a simple story but an incredibly magical and beautiful book and film. To this day, balloons continue to hold a special place in my heart!

Summer Reading

I'm unfortunately not privy to having a summer vacation this year. I do however, have a short list of books I plan to hack away at during my free time. All come highly recommended by friends! What books are you excited to read?

My best friend Bree gave me my very first copy of Griffin and Sabine: An Extraordinary Correspondence when I went to live in Montreal for 6 months. It has become one of my all time favorite books because it's romantic and mysterious and always brings me to a magical place. Bree sent along a c.d. to listen to while I read it and I think it's one of the most amazing reading/listening experiences I have ever had.
