Wednesday, November 30, 2011
i think i need to move to charleston, ya'll. i stumbled upon this amazingly perfect restaurant
on oliva's blog today and i can't stop thinking about it! the detail to the countertops, old
bottle caps and rustic industrial chic everything makes me swoon. and butcher & bee
if that's not the cutest name for a place to get my grub on, i don't know what is!

FEEL BETTER ABOUT EATING
3
Tuesday, November 1, 2011
this past year has been tough. i've lost a job and started freelancing which means more time on my hands, less distractions and the emotional highs and lows and anxiety of being unemployed. i spent a lot of time this summer eating my feelings. you know the drill ... i feel bad ... i need a cookie .... and maybe some ice cream on top .... and heck, might as well have that pizza and make it a meal. when i got back from a recent trip i got on the scale and had gained a whopping 15 pounds. i'm a fairly tall person so i can get away with gaining a bit and not really noticing. but then it all adds up and WAM - i had some serious work to do. so i've slowly been getting back on the wagon. i cut out desserts and alcohol (my vices!) i find one hour a day to work out; whether that be spin class, a hike with my dog or a dance class. i use cooking at the treat and always make something new everyday to keep things fresh. my body is changing and i can feel it. and it feels a whole lot better than that cookie.
when i do eat, i make sure that the majority of my meal is made of fruits and/or veggies. here are some of my favorite go-to healthy recipes i've been loving:
- homemade gyros
- pumpkin pie oatmeal
- golden beet salad with fennel & gorgonzola cream
- roasted autumn panzanella salad

my favorite go-to breakfast spot in silverlake is food lab. the homemade granola, the waffles with plum compote and warm maple syrup, the sunny side eggs with austrian speck and chives, the homemade strawberry lemonade, oh my! i can never get enough of this place.

Food Glorious Food

Morning and heads up! I have a new addiction! Angela Hardison's blog documents photos of her raw diet which have convinced me jump aboard the healthy train instead of popping pieces of chocolate all day long (12 pieces is totally fine because it's dark chocolate, right?) Anyway, pop on over to Angela's blog to check it out!

Milk & Cookies
1
Tuesday, July 13, 2010
One of my favorite dessert hot-spots in L.A. is the delectable Milk. I have a Saturday afternoon tradition; I order the healthy-est (yet delicious) Cobb salad, then make up for it with one or maybe two gooey desserts! This past weekend I tried the snicker doodle and girl, let me tell YOU. Milk also makes triple chocolate milkshakes, home-made ice cream sandwiches (you pick the gelato, they pick the cookies) and red velvet cupcake cones. I mean, it really doesn't get much better.

Hello, Cup Cake!
0
Thursday, June 25, 2009
Cupcakes are the perfect treat for any occasion. I enjoy grabbing them with friends, taking them on picnics, and making them for parties. I have always joked about creating my own Los Angeles Cupcake Map and then yesterday, I stumbled upon one!

The Great Los Angeles Cup Cake Map
The cupcake map is rather extensive (albeit awesome!), so here is a list of my own personal favorite cupcake joints around town. I tried to choose ones in different areas so your drive-time to cupcake heaven is minimal! Enjoy!
Hot Cakes (West L.A.)
Sprinkles Cupcakes (Beverly Hills)
Joan's on Third (West Hollywood)
Buttercake Bakery (Century City)
Vanilla Bake Shop (Santa Monica)
Bluebird Cafe (Culver City)
Cafe at the Vista (Los Feliz)
Lark Cake Shop (Silverlake)
