Getting my first tattoo this year! I love the ones below. Do you have a tattoo? Where did you go for inspiration?
** disclaimer to my parents: Do not freak out. I haven't decided this for sure yet. Please don't call me to discuss.

  1. I have five tattoos and honestly, I didn't go anywhere for inspiration. I let an idea come to me (each of my tattoos is meaningful in some way) and then I think on it for a while (usually about a year) and if I still want it, then I get it. All of my tattoos are unique and extremely personal, so like I said I didn't really go anywhere to get inspiration.

If you're artistic, just start sketching things you've got on your mind or things that are important to you in your life and see where it takes you.
If not, find an artistic friend and ask them to throw some ideas together :]

  2. I like the little key one! I have 5 tattoos and most of them are just things I really like, they're all pretty small. Defnitely think about it alot because it's hard to get rid of a tattoo! Love the disclaimer to your parents.

  3. I love the bird tattoo! I don't have any tattoos, I'm too afraid that I'll change my mind down the road. Maybe one day :)

  4. Haha... your disclaimer made me laugh. My parents totally flipped - I decided to tell them a couple months AFTER I got it. ;) Can't wait to see what you decide. Definitely live with your idea for awhile before deciding to take the plunge - it's permanent! xo

  5. I have a tattoo of a wallpaper pattern by the Arts and Crafts designer William Morris on my calf. I got it a few years ago after falling in love with the image in one of my grad textbooks, and have never regretted it. My parents did freak out a bit at first, but I think they're pretty used to it now. I do love tattoos that utilize text, and will probably go that route if I ever get another one. Good luck with your decision!

  6. I just went and did it.
I got a native american sun symbol that means happiness right at the start of my forearm by the elbow.
I put thought into it but I decided to just go ahead and get it done because it was something I wanted for awhile.
So I am now soo glad I did!

  7. I have one tat currently, but plans for at least three more. It took me over a year to decide on a design for my first one, wanting it to be special to me.

  8. I just got my first tattoo! I always thought I would have to think hard about what to get, but then one day it just came to me, so I went and got it done. I got four little birds on my back. It was one of the best decisions I've made this year. And it's true what they say, once you start you just want more and more!

Don't worry about regretting what you get. I really believe that if you picked it, it fit that time of your life at that moment, then you'll never regret it. It becomes a new part of you.

About the parents, my dad didn't like it, but my mom was fine with it. Parents get used to it, and besides, once you get it they can't erase it from you. :]

  9. I have three right now. And probably 4 or 5 more ideas floating around in my head. I gave myself about a year to think on each one of my tattoos. Artist, concept and placement are key. Each of my tattoos is very personal to me and deals with family, so I'll never regret them.

The only thing with text based tattoos, most artist (for good reason) want to make the text pretty substantial. But if it's single line text, like that above, it's not that much of an issue.

  11. I have a tattoo! Little, on my lower back, obtained spontaneously my sophomore year of college in '05. It's the comedy/tragedy masks, drawn by me (I used to be a pretty serious actor). I don't know if I'd do it again, but I love that I have it...it reminds me of who I was at a particular time in my life.

  13. favorite tattoo i ever saw was b's insignia from griffin & sabine...

content is so personal, but placement, *placement* is key. remember the three rules: don't put it somewhere that will stretch, and don't put it somewhere that you can't cover up if need be, and don't put it somewhere than makes you look like a tiger woods hussy. Just sayin.

  14. i could never keep the same idea long enough to actually have it stamped on me forever. couldn't commit so never did it. I love that first one though.

  16. I completely agree with Lily! Placement is KEY. I got my husband's name in Braille on the inside of my left wrist. I love it.
