Raspberry Limeade Slushies

6

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Last night I had some friends over to my new house for Raspberry Limeade Slushies and they were the simplest and most tasty treats I have made in a long time! I discovered the recipe via my favorite food blog, Smitten Kitchen, and was delighted  at how well the lime and raspberry flavors really complemented each other. Check out the recipe below and enjoy!

Recipe
{Serves 4, generously}

1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
1 cup raspberries
1 cup water
4 cups ice
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup soda water
Lime wedges, for serving
4 chilled glasses (I used mini ball jars)

Directions
{Takes about 10 minutes total)

In a blender, blend the lime juice, raspberries, water, ice and sugar until slushy

Pour into glasses
Top off with about 1/4 cup soda water and garnish with a lime wedge
Drink quickly enough to get a brain freeze!

Music Mondays: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

{Home is Wherever I'm with you}

Good morning everyone! How was your weekend? Mine involved a lot of unpacking and a lot of baking; banana bread, homemade pizza and vanilla peach pie! Oh, and a lot of Scout-puppy playtime to boot! Today's Music Monday features one of my latest favorite bands; Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros led by Alex Ebert, vocalist of a power pop group you may already know, Ima Robot. Their song Home is incredible and is best listened to on a hot balmy night sitting on a front porch with a mason jar full of moonshine. Enjoy and have a great Monday!

Happy Weekend!

Happy Weekend, everyone! Don't you just love this photo? Love and MilkShake signs - that's all we really need, right? This week I'm going to attempt to bake this Vanilla Peach Pie via Unruly Things, take Scout to her first puppy obedience class and finally unpack the rest of my boxes from the move (those sequins and glitter sticks have to go somewhere, right?) What are you all doing? I hope you have a lovely one!

Made for Madewell

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Madewell has recently become my new clothing obsession, and their looks for fall are driving me to use that credit card more than it should be! I love fall clothing more than any other seasons, and Madewell just does it all sooooo well. Check out some of my favorite looks below, and visit their website here to get a better sneak peak. I also highly recommend visiting one of the Madewell stores if there happens to be one in your hood; the girls are friendly, the music is rockin' (while I was there yesterday they played a mix featuring Rilo Kiley, Metric, Hot Chip, among others!) and the clothes will simply speak for themselves.

Jenny Lewis is God. Her new album I'm Having Fun Now is released on August 31st and I can barely wait to elbow out the tween California hipsters at Amoeba when I go to purchase my copy. This is Jenny's 3rd solo album and this time she's paired up with her boyfriend Jonathan Rice. Check out the mix tape below and hear songs from Jenny's new album including "Big Wave", "Switch Blade" and " Scissor Runner".

Out of Print

5

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Out of Print celebrates the world’s great stories through fashion. Their shirts feature iconic and often out of print book covers. Some are classics, some are just curious enough to make great t-shirts, but all are striking works of art. Out of Print works closely with artists, authors and publishers to license the content that ends up in their collections. Each shirt is treated to feel soft and worn like a well-read book.

In addition to spreading the joy of reading through their tees, Out of Print acknowledges that many parts of the world don't have access to books at all and are working to change that. For each shirt they sell, one book is donated to a community in need through their partner Books For Africa.  I love the idea of encouraging reading through fashion and I will most definitely be sporting one of these Out of Prints soon!

Anthropologie Puppy

Monday, August 16, 2010

Well folks, we did it! The girl-Scout and I moved into our one bedroom Silverlake log cabin this weekend and we came out with all our fingers and paws in tact! There was an incredible amount of heavy lifting as well as Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros listening (Home anyone?), but my awesome Rock n' Roll movers made it a much simpler task (along with some incredible friends who deserve gold medals and cupcakes for their efforts!) I snapped this picture of the pup-lette lounging on my one and only favorite piece of furniture. She is sprawled on top of one of my anthropologie pillows looking a little too cozy if you ask me! At least she has good taste, right?

We're Moving!

Friday, August 13, 2010

Scout and I are packin' up the Parkman Apartment this weekend and moving to a more pup-friendly place! Don't worry - we're still staying in our beloved Silverlake but this time we've got a house with a yard and a wrap around porch! (And a closer proximity to the puppy playground!) I'm already dreaming up all the ways to decorate the new space and although this weekend will be mad-packing-moving-hectic-city, hopefully by Monday we'll be settled.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Meet Scout

37

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'd like to introduce to you the newest member to my humble little family; Scout! Yes, yes, as in To Kill a Mockingbird Scout and maybe, just maybe as in Girl Scout.  Scout is a 9.6 lb. Australian Shepard puppy. I've had her for 2 weeks now (hence the few posts) so potty training, long walks around the Silverlake Reservoir and trying not to spoil her with pink ice cream coned shape puppy treats have been consuming all my time! I am totally in love with this little bundle and am quite sure she will be posted about regularly on LPC in the future!

Music Mondays

Monday, August 9, 2010

Hi and a Happy Monday to you all! We're bringing it back hard-core blog style and re-introducing Music Monday's so - get. yourselves. excited. Today's band, Sleigh Bells, broke out during last October's CMJ festival and have since exploded into the indie music scene. The Brooklyn based duo - singer Alexis Krauss and guitarist-producer Derek Miller have been playing shows with M.I.A and have just released their debut album, Treats, to rare fanfare. Treats has been on my 3-disc changer for over the past month and I don't see it being replaced anytime soon!

What do they sound like?
1/2 part The Kinks, 3/4 part Funkadelics and a dash of the Junior Boys.

Hit Singles?
My favorites are "Tell Em" and "Rill Rill" featured above!

Enjoy!

Blood Orange Mojito

Friday, August 6, 2010

While I was perusing the blogosphere this morning I came across Design Sponge's post about this intoxicating looking drink; the Blood Orange Mojito and simply can not stop salivating! These must be made before the summer is over, don't you all think?

Ingredients

2 Bunches of Mint
1 Cup of Fresh Squeezed Blood Orange Juice (you can substitute Trader Joe’s Blood Orange Soda)
2 shots of Rum
2 Tablespoons of Sugar (omit if you use the TJ’s juice)
Juice of 1 Lime
1 cup of ice
1 shaker & Muddler

Methodology

Add mint, lime juice and sugar to shaker.
Muddle the ingredients until the mint is well crushed.
Add rum, blood orange juice and ice.
Shake well and serve garnished with remaining mint and a slice of lime.

Enjoy!
