This weekend is the first official weekend of summer! (Yes, I didn't know that either!) I have many lovely guests coming into town this weekend, including Lily and Phoebe Stockman all the way from Joshua Tree, and my Huckins pal Ms. Liz Beedy! Here's what we'll be up to!
Thursday, June 18th SKATE: Down and Derby
What: Sort out your short shorts for a 1970s roller disco dance party with DJs, drinks, and $5 skate rentals.
Why: Free wheelie.
When: Thurs., 9 p.m.-2 a.m.
Where: The Echoplex, 1154 Glendale Blvd., between Park Ave. & Montana St., Echo Park. For reduced admission, R.S.V.P. to downandderby.org.
Saturday, June 20th: Saturdays Off the 405 - Chairlift playing at the Getty!
Fridays Off the 405 are now Saturdays Off the 405! Enjoy outdoor music and evening views of the city and drink in the refreshing summer exhibitions in a casual and spontaneous atmosphere. The evenings feature performances by your soon-to-be favorite bands, along with DJ sets to open and close the night. A cash bar is stocked with Getty-tinis and more, and the Garden Terrace Cafe offers sandwiches, salads, and other nibbles (both until 8:30 p.m.)
6:00–9:00 p.m. Kicking off the new night is Brooklyn-based trio Chairlift, said to be "just as at home in a David Lynch film as in the aisles of a supermarket." Chairlift's unique blend of synth-pop made their single "Bruises" a hit (you might have heard it in a recent iPod nano ad)
Saturday, June 20th: Cemetery Screening: The Graduate at Hollywood Forever
Bring dinner and drinks to coo-coo-ca-choo at Anne Bancroft's alpha cougar in the Mike Nichols classic.
One word: Plastics.
Sat 7:30p gates open, 9p film. 6000 Santa Monica Blvd. (323-469-1181). $10.
