SCENES FROM THE WEEKEND // NORTH CAROLINA

Monday, November 7, 2011

I just got back from a week in North Carolina. I discovered the lovely mountain town of Asheville for the first time, spent some quality time with friends, attended a good friend's wedding and took a walk through my old college campus at UNC. NC was in full on Fall mode and I couldn't get enough! Here are some of my favorite photos of the trip below.

THE WEEKEND

the most beautiful l.a. sunset | labor day dinner party | a friend's living room display | orange squash from the garden | my staple breakfast of late | chocolate chip cookies with sea salt | homemade mint lemonade | scout's mugshot | my latest favorite cup of coffee | falling stars on the ceiling | mocha chip gelato

There was a lot of eating this past weekend if you can't tell from the pictures. It's funny to think about labor day because even though it's been years since its meant back to school for me, I still get that excited/nervous/anxious feeling in my stomach that a new season is starting and therefore a new adventure. I'm crossing my fingers and spitting in my hat that this 95-degree L.A. weather will burn off soon. I want the leaves to change. I want to wear tights and boots and sweaters. I want to start making things that involve pumpkin and have a reason to arrange an apple picking adventure. (can you tell I'm a yankee!?) Here's to fall, everyone! May it come quickly for all.

This weekend was a bit hectic as I started producing my very first commercial (yay!), but I still managed to squeeze some fun in as well. On Friday night I met up with a bunch of friends to see Lost Moon Radio at the Hollywood Fringe Festival followed by live-band-karaoke (um, total eclipse of the heart, anyone?) On Saturday was a trip to one of my favorite local restaurants, Umami Burger, and Sunday involved relaxing, walks around the Silverlake reservoir and a trip to the newly opened Proof Bakery in Atwater Village. I hate to admit that there was not a lot of productivity this weekend, but I'm feeling good and positive about the week ahead.

Oh! And it's official ... Happy Summer everyone!

This past weekend was filled to the brim with a lot of running around; a one-man show directed by a friend held at the Black Dahlia Theater (adorable) a visit to the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles for the Maria Kalman exhibit (inspiring), a walk around the Silverlake Reservoir with the pup in tow (invigorating), an anti-Valentines Day party complete with red and white streamers, heart shaped goodies and a dance party, (delightful) and finally my monthly trip to the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market (exhausting!) I came home empty handed but snapped a few photos of some interesting goodies I spotted along the way.

Well well, hello Monday! Did everyone have a swell weekend? I have to be honest, I ate my way through this past weekend, which goes against rules # 1-75 on my new years resolution list. Oops! Bree and I took a road trip (I say road trip because with traffic, a stop for snacks, a trip to refill gas, and 2 looped listening sessions of Girl Talk's latest album the route there took us over an hour) we arrived in Venice for an adventurous afternoon. I am a east-side L.A. girl at heart, but I do love me some beach lovin' every once in a while. If I was forced by law to leave my beloved Silverlake, my next choice would totally be Venice. So B and I walked the streets of Abbot Kinney, dined at Gjelina and shared the most delicious Gruyere, Caramelized Onion, Fromage Blanc & Arugula Pizza I've ever tasted. We chased our lunch with the butterscotch pot de creme with salted caramel and creme fraiche and amaretto gelato. Real women order dessert, kids. Just sayin'.  Sunday was filled with celebrating best boy pal C's birthday at the Eagle Rock Brewery. We ate from the the No Jodas! Cuban Kitchen food truck and sipped some of the most delicious specialty beers I've ever tasted. The evening ended with a cookie cake (obviously!) and all of us standing around the campfire drinking jugs full of beer and reminiscing about all of C's past birthdays, and just how much we love him! A good weekend, if I do say so myself!
