MUSIC MONDAY: WE FOUND LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE

Watching two people fall in love via a drug soaked frenzy is straight-up-seductive. I saw this video for Rihanna's latest jam, We found love in a hopeless place, and was speechless; who knew Rihanna could be so effing cool? My initial thoughts were: I need those Christmas lights  in her bedroom. Where does one procure that denim romper? And does Rihanna actually wake up in the morning with her hair looking that good? The video was directed by the effervescently cool Melina Matsoukas who has also shot videos for Lily Allen, Beyonce and Lady Gaga to name a few. No big deal. No big deal at all. It's on my bucket list for 2012 to direct my first music video and you bettah believe I'll be starting my online inspiration board with this puppy. ENJOY!

full disclosure: i discovered this song while watching a citi bank commercial. and then i spent 30 minutes googling trying to find it. but i did! this song is called into the wild by pop rock artist laura pergolizzi (who goes by L.P. professionally and with a name like that, i don't blame her!) she's like neko case mixed with foster the people with a twist of patti smith . enjoy it folks. and happiest monday!

I know that finding new music takes work. So I've put together my ten favorite bands from the past few years. I even listed a few songs to check out too! Music is the one thing that no matter what's going on, can always fill me up and take me to that sometimes-hard-to-reach-happy-place. I'm so glad to be able to share all of these amazing and talented people with you. MUSIC MONDAY // LANA DEL RAY

Lana Del Ray is a hybrid between Nancy Sinatra and Lauren Bacall. A friend passed on her Video Games video to me a few months ago and I was enchanted by her so-cal 60's raspy voice.  Lana is a New York native who created her own music video and uploaded it to youtube. Almost over night she had over 2 million views. Now that's what I call gumption! This gal now has a record label and an album due out in early 2012. As Los Angeles slowly (I mean it, it's slow as molasses!) slides into Fall, here are the tunes on repeat on my own personal jukebox. For some reason, Fall music fits into the same category for me as early-Sunday-morning-before-the -california-haze-has-burned-off music. Music Monday: The Vivian Girls

The Vivian Girls are, in short, AWESOME. The Brooklyn based trio includes drummer Fiona Campbell, guitarist Cassie Ramone and bassist Kickball Katy Goodman (best.name.ever!) These tough chicks are not your average girl group, and would probably get ticked if you called them that. The Vivian Girls are a  touch of the Supremes with a dash of Bye Bye Birdie and a pinch of Joan Jett. Check out their new music video below, Take it as it comes, which features the girls giving advice on how to deal with rotten deceiving boys. Totally delicious and pop-fun.Enjoy!

Music Monday: When the Stars Collide

What do Chloe Moertz, (LET ME IN) Miranda Cosgrove (ICARLY) and Alia Shawkat (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT) have in common? They are all in Best Coasts' new music video, Our Deal, directed by the ever-so-talented Drew Barrymore. I have to say, I think this video is one of the *coolest* things I've seen in a long time. The marriage of Best Coast's timeless tune with Barrymore's edgy pop sensibility equals a pretty, if I do say so myself, kick ass video. If 2011 had a West Side Story, it would be this video. Music Monday (On a Tuesday!)

I'm addicted to a gal named Adele.  I loved her back in the days of Hometown Glory but I have to say that her whole latest album, 21, kicks some major butt. I've had the record on repeat for the past 3 weeks and don't see that stopping anytime soon. Check out one of my favorite songs below, Make You Feel My Love, and download her album S.T.A.T. It's perfect to listen to over a Sunday brunch at home, a cab ride through the city or even during a creative brainstorm session. Either way, you gotta have it!

I've been on the go-go-go this past month with rehearsals and meetings and work and puppy walks. Music Monday: Jessie J

Happy Monday! Have I got a treat for you! Jessie J is a 22-year-old sassy gal from Essex with some mad pipes. On a typical day in the Times Square subway, Jessie set up a boom box and ripped her track Who you are for some lucky lucky civilians. Jessie J is expected to release her debut album this Spring. Check it out below!

Music Monday: Country Strong

I saw Country Strong a few weeks ago. I didn't love it (did you?) but I did love being reminded how country music, with just a few strums of the gee-tar, can break your heart into itty bitty pieces. Below is my favorite song from the film, "Give into me", by Faith Hill (sung by the very talented and sexy Garrett Hedlund and Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester in the movie). Music Monday: Foster the People

Foster the People is a new L.A. Based band and  reminds me of a mash-up between MGMT, Phoneix, Peter Bjorn and John with a sprinkle of Empire of the Sun. Their new indie-pop jam, Pumped up Kicks,  exudes sunny Californian vibes and just makes you plain ole' feel good. But don't go looking for Foster The People on Myspace, check out Facebook instead. The unsigned band is committed to staying connected to its growing audience by crowd-sourcing its Facebook friends for tour locations, tweeting with updates, and offering free downloads via its official website. Music Monday: Peter Bjorn and John

Happy Monday, everyone! Today's Music post features the Swede Trio Peter Bjorn and John. I was lucky enough to catch a sneak peek of these fellas in a mini concert at work a week ago. They debuted songs from their new LP, Gimme Some, (Out March 29th).  Let me set the scene for you: Three swedes, 18 guests, milk & cookies, live music at 4 PM during a workday, and lots of happy smiling faces. It was pretty rad and so fun to see these guys up close and personal! PB&J played a handful of new jams including what is certain to be a favorite, Eyes (featured below) with such energy and devotion. I can only imagine that this new album will be as successful if not more than their last. Check out the song below as it's sure to add some pep in your step on a Monday morning!

Music Monday: A day late

Ooops! With the excitement of my new camera post, I totally forgot to create a music Monday post! So we'll do it today, OK? At work for the Holidays, our music department asked each of us what our favorite song of 2010 was to they could compile a company best of 2010 mix-tape (great idea, right?) I gave my answer; Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's, which if you haven't heard - do yourself a favor and check it out here. If you have heard it, check out the *adorable* father/daughter rendition of the song below. This literally makes my heart melt. Enjoy!

Music Monday: Oren Lavie

Oren Lavie's video, Her Morning Elegance, has become a Pop Culture phenomena and the most successful stop motion video ever. The video was assembled from 2096 still photographs that were shot and sequenced to create a sense of movement. After going from stills to motion the artists decided to break the video down into its original photographs, printed in physical form and exhibited in galleries worldwide. Today you can own one of these prints and have a fraction of the video itself in your home!  This is one of my favorite videos of all time!

Music Monday: First Aid Kit

Hi Turkey's! Did you all have a lovely Thanksgiving? I sure hope so! Mine was fantastic and included some much needed R&R. Today's Music Monday features First Aid Kit; the Swedish Folk duo composed of sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, whose vocal harmonies and woodsy, folk-influenced songwriting take influence from bands such as Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom. First Aid Kit's debut album "The Big Black & The Blue," was released on January 25th, 2010.  To me, these super talented ladies sound like the junior version of Neko Case. And we can never have enough Neko Case now, can we? Check out their music video for their song, " Hard Believer" below. And lots of thanks & love to Ms. Taryn for introducing me to this band in the first place!

Music Monday: Phoenix/PS22

I stumbled upon PS22's beautiful rendition of Phoneix's Liztomania  (a children's chorus singing Phoenix? What? Amazing) and it reminded me of my love for the French pop-sync band. I started listening to them back in 2000 with their debut album, Untitled. The albums that followed were equally as impressive including their recent album released in 2009 entitled Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Fun fact? The lead singer, Thomas Mars, is Sofia Coppola's life partner and they have two children together! Check out Phoenix's video below for 1901 and if you have time, take a peek at the PS22 kids chorus video as well which started this whole Phoenix madness today! Happy Music Monday!
