Do yourself a favor; Go see Mike Mills' latest and greatest film, Beginner's, TODAY.  It is by far my favorite movie of the year. Reasons: It is shot locally (i.e. in Silverlake and Los Feliz). It features the handsome Ewan McGregor and the ever so charming Melanie Laurent (SHOSHANNNNNA!!!). There is a dog that talks (sort of). And It will make your heart ache in all the right places. Check out the trailer here. Enjoy!

Midnight in Paris

Thursday, June 16, 2011

I caught an afternoon screening of Woody Allen's new film, Midnight in Paris, yesterday and it was a sheer delight. I lived and studied in France my junior year of college in a small city called Toulouse. I was in a French immersion program so there was no English spoken. Ever. We stayed with host families, ate baguettes and fromage by the river (yes, French people actually do that), visited famous cathedrals, took a wine and cheese tasting class and participated in french dance lessons. It was an incredible year and the film made me miss the food, the lights and the magic of Paris. If you ever have the chance to study or visit in France, promise me you'll say yes!

I work in the film business, so seeing movies is a part of my job. I always get extremely excited for the movies coming out in the fall because they tend to be of a higher caliber than the Summertime popcorn flicks.  Here are my most anticipated films for the Fall season. Click on the movie titles below the posters to watch the trailer. Which movies are you looking forward to? Enjoy!

The Kids are All Right

Friday, July 9, 2010

The Kids Are All Right is the heartfelt new comedy from acclaimed director Lisa Cholodenko,(Laurel Canyon, High Art) starring Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, and Mark Ruffalo. Two teenaged children (Alice in Wonderland’s Mia Wasikowska and Journey to the Center of the Earth’s Josh Hutcherson) get the notion to seek out their biological father and introduce him into the family life that their two mothers (Bening and Moore) have built for them. Once the donor (Ruffalo) is found, the household will never be the same, as family ties are defined, re—defined, and re—re—defined. I saw an early screening of this last night and adored it and think you will too!

Meet Jessica Sanders

You know those hip new ipad ads on t.v.? Well, Jessica Sanders directed those. After she self-directed the Sony promo (featured below), Steve Jobs hand-picked her to take on full responsibility for the entire aesthetic of the ipad campaign. What's cool?  It's the very first time he has hired an outside person to handle an Apple campaign. What's cooler? She's an award-winning documentary filmmaker to boot. Check out her promo below! It sure won me over.

Somewhere

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Writer/director Sofia Coppola (and my own personal heroine) reunites with the film company with which she made the Academy Award-winning hit Lost in Translation. Her new film is an intimate story set in contemporary Los Angeles; Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a bad-boy actor stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood. With an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning), Johnny is forced to look at the questions we must all confront. Somewhere hits theaters on December 22nd, 2010. I may be first in line.

Up Up and Away!

I hope by now all of you have had the chance to view Pixar's latest movie; Up. If you haven't - the story follows Carl Fredricksen, a 78 year old balloon salesman who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America, all of course, for love.

Up was one of my favorite movies from 2009 and when I stumbled upon this adorable Up inspired engagement shoot by Wildflowers Photography, I had to share!

Breaking Upwards

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Breaking Upwards follows a young New York couple who decide to intricately strategize their own break up. Sound gloomy? It's actually incredibly infectious and charming and I may have shed not one but two-seven tears. The trailer is below and it's in theaters now. I'd have to say the best movie I've seen in a while. Check it out!

Follow the Yellow Brook Road

When I was a petite cher, mon poppa would take me to the corner video store every Saturday to pick out a movie. At the age of 2 I choose The Wizard of Oz and never looked back. Over the next consecutive 104 Saturdays, Dorothy and Toto were my exclusive candy of choice, my little girl joie de vivre! My father kept allowing me to make my own decision on those Saturday afternoons (before having chocolate croissants and Orangina at bread and chocolate, and after daughter and pop library visits) in the hopes that I would actually make the choice to choose something, (anything) else. I don't know if it was Dorothy's ruby slippers, the sparkle of emerald city or Judy Garland's sweet Somewhere over the Rainbow, but I was hooked. To this day I still think that Wizard of Oz is a perfect and sublimely magical story.

And this past weekend I went on a magical adventure to The Garden of Oz in the Hollywood Hills. Check out the photos below!
